Privacy Statement

Privacy Statement

Effective Date: May 2, 2026 | Last Updated: May 2, 2026

1. Overview

ALIGN (including all versions of the Tool) is committed to transparent data practices. This Privacy Statement explains what information is collected when you use the Tool, how it is used, and the choices you have regarding your information. These practices apply across all current and future versions of ALIGN unless otherwise specified.

We do not collect, solicit, or process personally identifiable student information as part of normal tool use, and we design our data practices to support compliance with applicable education privacy laws, including FERPA and COPPA.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Lesson details entered into the Tool (grade level, subject, topic, standards, source type)
  • Prompts and messages submitted through the chat interface
  • Any other content you voluntarily input into form fields

Information collected automatically:

  • Browser type and version
  • General usage patterns and session metadata
  • Device type and operating system
  • IP address (used for security and abuse prevention only)

We do not require account creation or collect names, email addresses, or demographic information unless explicitly provided for support purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

Information collected is used to:

  • Deliver, operate, and improve the functionality of ALIGN across all versions
  • Process your inputs and generate AI-assisted lesson plan outputs
  • Diagnose technical issues and ensure system reliability
  • Analyze aggregated, de-identified usage trends to improve the Tool
  • Respond to support requests or reported concerns

We do not use your data for targeted advertising, behavioral profiling, or sale to third parties.

4. AI Processing & Third-Party Models

ALIGN uses the Anthropic Claude API to generate instructional content. Inputs you provide are transmitted to Anthropic's servers for processing.

By using ALIGN, you acknowledge that your inputs are processed by Anthropic's AI systems. Please review Anthropic's Privacy Policy for information on how they handle API data.

Do not enter personally identifiable student information into the Tool. Inputs should remain at the level of curriculum planning — grade, subject, standard, and instructional strategy — not individual student data.

5. Student Data & FERPA

ALIGN is a teacher-facing planning tool. It is not designed to collect, store, or process student education records as defined under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Users are responsible for ensuring they do not input student PII — including names, student ID numbers, grades, behavioral records, or any data that could identify an individual student — into the Tool.

If ALIGN is deployed at the institutional level, the deploying institution bears responsibility for ensuring the Tool's use is consistent with its FERPA obligations and local data governance policies.

6. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your data. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • AI processing: Inputs are transmitted to Anthropic's API for response generation (see Section 4).
  • Legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, court order, or governmental authority.
  • Safety: We may disclose information to prevent imminent harm or protect the rights and safety of users or others.
  • Service providers: We may engage trusted vendors who assist in operating the Tool, subject to confidentiality agreements consistent with this Statement.

7. Data Retention

ALIGN does not maintain a persistent user database or long-term storage of chat conversations by default. Session data is ephemeral — it exists within your browser session and is not saved server-side unless explicitly stated in a specific version of the Tool.

Usage metadata (non-identifying) may be retained for up to 12 months for product improvement purposes before being permanently deleted or anonymized.

8. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our servers
  • API key management practices consistent with Anthropic's recommendations
  • Access controls limiting who can view usage data

No system is completely secure. We encourage responsible use and prompt reporting of any suspected security vulnerabilities.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to information we hold about your use of the Tool
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing activities
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us (see Section 11). We will respond to verifiable requests within 30 days.

10. Changes to This Statement

We may update this Privacy Statement periodically to reflect changes in our practices, applicable law, or the introduction of new versions of the Tool. We will update the "Last Updated" date when changes are made. Continued use of ALIGN following any update constitutes your acknowledgment of the revised Statement.
